We are not Jewish. Can my child still attend K'Ton Ton?
Yes! We have families of all faiths who attend K'Ton Ton. We don't teach religion at K'Ton Ton. We do share and participate in Jewish culture and traditions, such as potato latkes at Hanukkah. We have a weekly Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath) celebration on Fridays, during which we sing, dance, and eat challah (which the children make many weeks!) We also celebrate Jewish holidays. Does my child need to potty-trained?
No. Just like all other developmental milestones, toilet learning happens at different times for all children. We will encourage and support all efforts towards mastering this milestone. How do you handle parent and child separation?
We believe that it is equally important to help parents separate from their children as it is for children to separate from their parents. It is a key component in our work at the beginning of the school year. We have a number of activities at the start of our school year to help with the transition, a family potluck at the splash pad, parent meeting, and open house play day. We support both parents and children through this process. We may sometimes encourage parents to leave, but stay nearby, and we will always send picture updates. Our gentle approach is reflective of what children will experience once they have adjusted to their student life. We insure that we are creating an environment that feels safe, warm and welcoming to the pace of every child who is left in our educational care. Parents also have the opportunity at drop-off to spend time with their child for the first 15 minutes of each school day. Do you go outside?
Yes! We have a beuatiful playyard which is fully privacy-fenced. Our Playyard serves to provide children with the opportunity to run and bike and climb developing their gross motor skill and continuing to develop their social and negotiation skills. Utilizing our out door space is integral to our daily curriculum. Even in winter we bundle up and take advantage of our Playyard space to run, jump and interact. This allows our students to develop their gross motor skills, their social skills and negotiation skills, when it comes time to share bikes or sandbox tools. |
My child has an allergy. What about snack time?
We are a nut-free and allergy sensitive environment. We provide a daily, healthy snack. We have a kosher, dairy kitchen so no meat is allowed at K'Ton Ton. Snack usually includes a fruit or vegetable, protein, and a carbohydrate. We will work with you to make sure what we serve for snack is safe for your child. We serve water with snack. What is your discipline policy?
We are a Conscious Discpline school. Behavior situations that arise are met with calm, positive guidance to learn skills that are missing. What days will my child attend?
Our Me, Two class can chose between one, two, or three days (Tuesday-Thursday). Our Preschooler families can choose between 3 and 4 days week (Tuesday-Friday) Our Pre-Kindergarten class attends five days a week. What does K'Ton Ton mean?
